How to Install XP on Vista-Default HP Laptops

If you are an unlikely owner of a Vista powered HP laptop, your best bet would be to get it overwritten with Windows 7 or downgraded to Windows XP. Windows XP is by far the best and most stable operating system from Microsoft that today, powers more than a million users worldwide. If you plan to upgrade to Windows 7, the procedure is simple, simply click on upgrade.


However, if you are looking to install XP on your HP Laptop, there will be a few things that you will need to prepare yourself with.

The first step that you would need to do is back up all essential data that you would need. If you are using Vista on an HP Laptop, there would be a large folder in your C Drive known as SW. This folder contains most of the required data that needs your HP to work effectively. Make sure you have a back up of that folder. The second step that you would need to get done is install Windows XP. Put the disc in the tray and restart the PC. Format your HDD and restart again this time using XP as the default operating system. Once you have done this, you should have XP installed on your laptop. However, you will realize that not all of your components such as Wi-Fi, LAN, Audio etc are working. You will need drivers for these components which you will find on the storage device containing the large SW folder that you have backed up. Install all the necessary drivers from there and restart. You should be good to go. In case there are a few drivers not working, connect to the internet and download the required files.

This is the best way you can install XP on a default Vista operating system laptop.
